City’s Sailor and Coach presented Pride of Telangana Award 2019 for his contribution in producing internationally acclaimed sailors from underprivileged backgrounds and giving them hope and dignity through sports
Hyderabad, June 30, 2019: Suheim Sheikh, a city based Sailor and Coach awarded Pride of Telangana 2019 Award for his contribution for producing internationally acclaimed Sailors from underprivileged backgrounds and giving them dignity through sports. In a function held at HICC on Saturday night Suheim Sheikh was felicitated with the award Suheim Sheikh, an alumnus of IIT-Madras , architected award winning software products in the realm of Fraud Detection for Equity Trading & Banking sold in 30 countries. Suheim then took to his passions of Sailing and Photography and Sailing is now a full-time philanthropic activity, teaching deprived kids to compete at international levels with full-servicepatronage through his NGO, The Yacht Club of Hyderabad. As Chief Coach and President he is focused on working with tribal and backward classes, and many have become National Champions and represented India on Intenational Waters. His NGO started with 3 boats and is now 100 boats the largest not for profit training establishment for Sailing in India. Suheim himself an accomplished International Sailor has produced 6 National Champions, 25 National medalists and 10 State Champions and harbors a dream to produce an Olympic Sailing Champion from Telangana. 10 of his protégés have been absorbed into Army and Navy Sailing Schools and most of the top 10 girls and boys in India have learned Sailing at the YCH while about 60 percent of the National Fleet is from Telangana.
