City Mayor to receive honour either off days or off hours

Ludhiana, October 9, 2012: Since Harcharan Singh Gohalwarhia has been elected Ludhiana Mayor he has been receiving honour at public functions.

People seem to be crazy to get him honour for attaining the prestigious post. Another aspect of this whole episode is that there were a few people who have hidden agendas of honouring the City Mayor.

In-fact, they themselves wanted publicity under the garb of honouring Mayor. This is evident from the fact that the organisers not only send pre-event invites to the local media for coverage of functions being held to honour Mayor but they also send press releases and photographs post-event.

Enquiries conducted by City Air News reveal that now most of the dailies are not taking interest in getting published news-items and photographs related to honouring of City Mayor. Rather, a couple of local newspapers offices have been asked by their head offices to stop sending such news and “let the Mayor first work”.

There was another perception in the minds of several city residents that the routine functioning of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation was getting affected when Mayor go to receive honour at a public function during the working hours. It seems as if somebody has brought this fact to the notice of Mayor.

This is why at a specially convened first press conference at Mayor’s House here this evening, Gohalwarhia specially told that now he would be attending functions being arranged to honour him either during off days or off hours.

Asked about his development plans for the city, he told that he has just joined. He said let people consider themselves at his place. He said all possible plans for development of the city would be chalked out in due course of time. He believed that money was required for implementing plans.

He told that he had already got kick started cleanliness drive across the city, and necessary directions had been given to all concerned. He said this work had been started first because it did not require money.

Replying to a question, he told that people themselves were responsible for occurring of incidents of cave in of roads and lanes and contamination of water during rainy season. He pointed out that it had been observed that people got sewerage connections connected illegally after availing services of plumbers who did not have the requisite licences.

Mayor categorically warned that strict action would be initiated against those getting sewerage connections illegally connected to their respective houses after availing the services of unlicenced plumbers. He said proper procedure was not followed at the time of connections resulting to which sewerage got choked and roads cave in. This also resulted in contamination of water, he believed.

To another question, he told that nobody would be allowed to put illegal hoardings in any prt of the city. When the media persons pointed out that illegal hoardings were still seen in many parts of the city, Mayor said he would issue necessary directions to do the needful in this regard tomorrow.

He also told that efforts would be made to enhance revenue of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. He told that all pending dues of taxes would be recovered in the future.
