City lawyers stage protest

Lawyers burning an effigy of Chandigarh police as a mark of protest at Ludhiana on Thursday.

Ludhiana, March 7, 2013: Local lawyers on a call given by the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, on Thursday, remain abstained from work in all courts in support of their demand for cancellation of the FIR registered against Punjab and Haryana High Court advocates by the Chandigarh police.

They also burnt an effigy of Chandigarh police as a mark of protest.

On Monday, an FIR was registered against a few advocates by Chandigarh police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for rioting, obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions, assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty, and causing damage to public property.
