Ludhiana, July 18, 2013: Avtar Singh, General Secretary Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), in a statement issued today condemned the online e- Billing made compulsory for sales of Rs.50,000 and above as per notification issued by Punjab Excise and Taxation Department today covering iron and steel, plywood, edible oils, hosiery comprising cotton and garments, nut bolts etc.

E-billing is not applicable in the adjoining states of HP, Haryana, Uttaranchal and Rajasthan, as a result Punjab is likely to face shortage of raw material and sale of finished product will also be affected adversely.

Upkar Singh, Joint Secretary, CICU, said that MSME sector is already reeling under adverse economic scenario. This step is highly uncalled for and derogative measure which will cause great harassment to trade and industrial sector. Computer culture has yet not developed in Punjab and these disruptions are very much possible. After e-Billing tripping many contingencies can arise, which may take long time to set them right. This can violate the requirement of e-Billing which will put the traders and industrialists in great trouble.

Both of them have appealed and urged upon the chief minister Punjab to reconsider this measure and direct the excise and taxation department Punjab to withdraw the notification immediately. This support is indeed required to beat the challenge and maintain growth trajectory for the MSMEs to survive in local market.
