Children and mothers from SOS India tied Rakhi to Governors and CMs

Delhi, August 17, 2019: On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a group of children from SOS India tied Rakhi to many Governors and Chief Ministers including Governors and CMs of Raipur, Odisha, Meghalya, Puducherry etc, the children and mothers got an opportunity to share their smiles with them and children got gifts from the officials. They conveyed their warm greetings to him, reaffirming the bond of love and affection. The state heads were equally delighted to meet the children and mothers of SOS Children’s Villages of India.

Like every year Raksha Bandhan was also celebrated in all the 32 SOS India Villages, where many of the settled youths came to celebrate the special bonding on the day from miles. They celebrated the occasion together again as a family. Irrespective of their caste and religion the children of SOS India are united through the bond of love and harmony.

All the sisters were dressed in beautiful ethnic attire. The ritual began with sisters applying tilak on their brother’s forehead, tied rakhi on their wrists and prayed for their wellness and good health. Gifts were also exchanged and all the old memories were cherished with countless talks filling the space with love and laughter. All the mothers of the villages also took an active part in this festival, preparing multipledelicious dishes for their families.

Traditionally, the festival of Raksha Bandhan is observed as a symbol of duty between brothers and sisters. On this day, a sister ties a rakhi around the wrist of her brother to pray for his prosperity, health and well-being.

Expressing the happiness over the participation, Sumanta Kar, Deputy National Director Integrated Child Care, SOS Children’s Villages of India said, “We are extremely gratefulfor giving opportunity for our children to celebrate the Rakhi with the leaders of the country.” This is a strong message from the government authorities to our children in need that they are not alone.” He added.

The children were overwhelmed and felt honoured meeting them. The festival is a symbol of love and unity between brothers and sisters. It promotes harmonious co-existence, which SOS Children’s Villages of India, one of the few organisations practising group foster care for upbringing of children re, also strives to provide to the parentless and abandoned children in need of care and protection.”
