Lucknow, April 1, 2017: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr.Yogi Adityanath ordered a probe of the works done under the Gomti riverfront project. During a review meeting of the project, the Chief Minister also directed the Chief Secretary to constitute a committee for the probe. The probe committee will be headed by a retired justice and a report would be submitted within 45-days.
He also directed Urban Development Minister Mr.Suresh Khanna and Irrigation Minister Mr.Dharmpal Singh to monitor the works at the river front project on a regular basis. During the meeting, Chief Minister was apprised that of the Rs. 1513 crore earmarked for the project, almost 95 i.e. Rs. 1435 crore had been spent but the work completed was only 60%. Expressing his dissatisfaction at this, the Chief Minister said the probe will also cover the delay in the completion of the project and on
where was the money spent.
Officers presented a revised estimate of Rs. 2448 crore to the Chief Minister after which he directed them to rethink on various works under the project and remove unnecessary works and complete the project at the earliest. He also observed that pollution levels were very high in the Gomti River and said that if this aspect was attended to first it would have been better. The Chief Minister also asked officials for setting up for an STP and directed for adequate disposal of wastes and by products
coming from various mills into the Gomti River in Pilibhit and Lakhimpur Kheri districts.
There is no point of beautification of the Gomti River banks until the river flowed dirty, Mr. Yogi Adityanath said and said that it was almost impossible to stand on the riverfront due to the alarming pollution levels in the river. He also pointed out that Gomti met Ganga in Jaunpur and asked officers to link it to the 'Namami Gange' project.
Also present during the meeting were deputy Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Urban Development Minister Mr. Suresh Khanna, Tourism Minister Mrs. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Irrigation Minister Mr.Dharampal Singh, Technical & Medical Education Minister Mr.Ashutosh Tandon, Forest and Environment Minister Mr. Dara Singh Chauhan and other members of the cabinet.
