Chandigarh, July 13, 2017: Irrigation department has completed the recruitment process of 732 Canal Patwaries and Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will hand over appointment letters to these newly recruited Canal Patwaries on July 14.

Announcing this in a statement issued here, Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will hand over appointment letters to 732 newly recruited Canal Patwaris during a simple function to be organised in the complex of Shivalik Public School Mohali on Friday. “The recruitment of these canal patwaries was much needed as in 1997-98; about 800 Canal Patwaris were transferred from the irrigation department to the revenue department. Since then the irrigation department was facing shortage of Canal Patwaris and the work was very much affected”, he added.

Irrigation Minister said that out of 732 newly recruited Canal Patwaries 236 will be posted at Sirhind Canal Circle Ludhiana, 116 at Ferozepur canal circle Ferozepur, 214 at IB Circle Patiala, 41 at Bhakhra Main Line Circle Patiala, 83 at Upper Bari Doab Canal Circle Amritsar and 42 at Bist Doab Jalandhar.

Rana Gurjeet Singh further added that these newly selected candidates have been given strict training of 3 months by the Irrigation Department, after which the candidates have passed the departmental examination as per the rules. This entire process has been completed in a very short time and in a transparent manner, said Rana Gurjeet.
