Chennai, September 14, 2016: Tamil Nadu’s diversified conglomerate, Chettinad Group today announced the launch of a senior living community initiative, under the aegis of its CSR arm, Chettinad Paroupakaaram Foundation. The initiative aims at offering never-before elder care with state-of-the art facilities to provide a ‘home away from home’ experience to the residents. Sigapi ilam, the first community project under this initiative is spread across 7.2 acres of land, and is strategically located on the scenic belt between Pillayarpatti and Kundrakkudi.

Built in memory of late Ms. Sigapi Achi, the first phase of Sigapi Ilam comprises of six blocks and has been carefully designed with finest amenities to encourage interaction between the residents and involving them in community-oriented activities. The integrated community has been developed to prevent residents from the sense of isolation, with state-of-the-art streets, walkways, courtyards and clusters. The community also comprises of in-house Hospitals, Yoga centre, school and many such amenities.

Commenting on this initiative, Mr. M.A.M.R Muthiah, (Ayyappan) Managing Director, Chettinad Group, said “We are delighted to launch our very first senior living community in Karaikudi District. Our CSR motto has always been to develop various communities by offering the best of facilities, which directly addresses the needs of the society. We as a group believe in sustained and standardized community rehabilitation programs that offer an inclusive environment and benefit the various sections of the society.”

He further added, “Elder care requires utmost attention to detailing in order to address the varied needs of people in that age category. During the development of this facility we learnt that basic amenities like medical services, spacious rooms and safety features are considered as luxury. While many projects promise these amenities, affordability still poses a challenge for the elders. I am confident that Sigapi Ilam will be a home away from home with much more added advantages and benefits."

The surroundings of the community has been developed keeping in mind the varied needs of elderly care by way of placing signage to assist navigation around the campus, with dedicated pathways for pedestrian and vehicular circulation for the differently-abled. To ensure safety of the residents, the community has been developed with green buffer spaces with an arcade of trees separating the arterial roads and private walkways. The community also offers resident a sense of tranquility through calming views of the Lilly Pond from across centers.
