Chandigarh, December 2, 2016: The Chandigarh Unit of Association of Microbiologists of India has been adjudged the best unit in country at the 57th annual conference of the Association of Microbiologists of India.
The prestigious national annual conference was held in Guwahati University from November 24 to 27, 2016 and about 1000 participants from various parts of the country attended it. The Chandigarh Unit has been adjudged as the best unit in country for the second consecutive time.
The Association of Microbiologists of India (National) chose the Chandigarh unit for best entry for promoting research, conducting outreach programs and raising general public awareness issues. The President of the unit, Prof. Prince Sharma and Secretary, Dr.Naveen Gupta from the Department of Microbiology, Panjab University (PU) expressed that such an achievement is because of the hard work and joint efforts of all the members of the unit, majority of whom are alumni or present faculty of Panjab University. Also, the honour has spurred many other units in country to follow suit which is good for science. The unit is aggressively pursuing the untiring efforts to spread the scientific knowledge and to promote research in the fields of Microbiology and Biotechnology. Many local colleges and institutes have come in the fold of the unit and the unit is helping them organize various conferences/workshops/outreach programs.
Till date the unit has conducted events like faculty development programs, symposia on Forensic Biotechnology and Nanobiotechnology, hands on workshops for training in fermentation technology, student counseling during admission, and many more.
