Chandigarh, December 6, 2013: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil, today inaugurated Chrysanthemum Show at the Terraced Gardens in Sector 33, Chandigarh.
After paying a floral tribute at Martyrs Pillar, Patil showed keen interests on flower exhibition organised by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh in which 245 different varieties of Chrysanthemum, displayed. He interacted with municipal councilors and residents of the area and sought their active involvement and partnership in the
further beautification of the garden and the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Patil said that flowers add beauty, goodness and fragrance in our life. He said as flowers spread fragrance we should also think good and positive to create a healthy society.
Extending special congratulations to Mali’s for developing various varieties of flowers, Patil said that they were the main contributor  in making this show successful and beautiful. He also distributed sweets amongst the malis and other workers on the occasion.
Subhash Chawla, Mayor, and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, while giving a brief about the festival, informed that in the show, flowers are used differently as cut flowers, loose flowers, hanging pots, baskets, bedding purpose and for which various categories of Chrysanthemum pots are displayed. He said various government/
semi-government institutions, Chandigarh Housing Board, PGI Chandigarh, Punjab Warehousing Corporation, CITCO, IMTECH Chandigarh, HUDA Haryana, PWD Punjab & Chandigarh, AG Punjab, etc and the private
growers took part in competitions of flowers grown in pots. Prizes will be given to the best exhibits in each category.
Folk dance and songs were performed by artists of Kashmir and Rajasthan which was highly appreciated by the Administrator.
