Seeking to spread awareness on the harmful effects of self-medication students from the department of pharmacy, CGC Landran organised an awareness rally. The rally was flagged off by Dr.P.N.Hrisheekesha, the Campus Director and passed through Landran and villages nearby. Through slogans, a nukkad natak and personally interacting with residents, the students apprised them about the hazards of self-medication and abuse of pharmaceutical drugs which are among the key causes of growing drug-resistant or antibiotic-resistant diseases and infections. A World Bank Report, (2016) titled ‘Drug Resistant Infections – A threat to our economic future’ states that inability to treat infections will not only cost human lives, but will also result in GDP losses of over five per cent in low-income countries with global health care costs increasing $300 billion to one trillion dollar, annually. This further highlights the need for sensitizing people on not resorting to self-medication but take medicines as prescribed by a qualified doctor.

The rally concluded back at CGC campus with all the participants taking an oath to serve the society and continue promoting healthy and safe usage of pharmaceutical products.

Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran, commended the budding pharmacists and faculty members on this unique initiative.
