Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran organised an event to celebrate the 19th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating the memory of bravehearts of the Kargil war. Air Marshal Vinod Patney (SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, VrC) was the Chief guest on the occasion. Other distinguished guests gracing the event included Brig.(retd) Khushal Thakur, Gen.(retd) Trilochan Singh, Director CIMH, Col.Praveen Kumar (VrC), Lt.Ritu (Army Air Defence) and Mr Ranjit Bajaj (Minerva Academy). The event steeped in patriotic fervour, saw enthusiastic participation from CGC students.
The ceremony commenced with the honourable guests lighting the lamp followed by observance of a minute of silence by the gathered audience, in memory of the Kargil martyrs. Thereafter, the invited dignitaries were welcomed by the top management of CGC Landran.
Addressing the students, Air Marshal Vinod Patney (SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, VrC) enthralled them with stories from his time in the air force and extolled them to strive for excellence, have courage to do the right thing and be sincere in whichever endeavour they undertake in their lives. Gen. (retd) Trilochan Singh while sharing his experiences during his time in the Indian Army urged the audience to choose wisely, work honestly and work for the greater good of the country. Brig.(retd) Khushal Thakur CO of 18 Grenadiers, which captured Tololing during the Kargil War, enthralled the attendees with a highly-charged and great narration of the Kargil war and the supreme sacrifices made by the Indian Army, and winning glory for the nation amidst most hostile situation and terrain. He inspired the students to never get discouraged in the face of failures or disappointments and keep advancing. Col. Praveen Kumar, Veer Chakra gave a glorious narrative of grit, guts and glory of the Kargil War putting the spotlight on martyred Kargil war heroes like Shershah Capt. Vikram Batra, Capt. Vijayant Thapar, Capt. Manoj Kumar Pandey and others.
A poem recitation competition by CGC students, short skit and cultural performances marked the conclusion of the event. The event served as a great platform for students to interact with the invited speakers besides mentoring them on the life lessons one could draw from the lives of a soldier.
Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC said, “Kargil Vijay Divas reminds us of the sacrifices made by our valiant defence personnel. This event is our way of remembering their exemplary courage and determination and we hope that it will inspire CGC students to rise to their best possible selves and become visionary leaders of tomorrow”.
