CGC Landran organises 4th International Model United Nations Conference
The 4th International Model United Nations (MUN) conference was inaugurated at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran by the Chief Guest Ms. Mia Yen, Consul General of Canada, at Consulate General of Canada in Chandigarh. The two-day event would see the participation of over 250 delegates from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Prayaas, a unique committee comprising visually- impaired student delegates discussing ‘Possible educational reforms in India,’ would be on one the major highlights of the conference. MUN seeks to enhance student delegates’ research, public speaking, debating and writing skills apart from inculcating in them the spirit of leadership, teamwork and critical thinking. Delegates under five committees which include UNGA-DISEC, UN-HRC, UN-CSW, AIPPM and would debate on subjects including ‘Instability in the Mediterranean region & its impact on global security’, ‘Ensuring Human Rights through the 2030 agenda for sustainable development’, ‘Enhancing socio-political participation of women with emphasis on women security’, Review of the foreign policies with emphasis on neighbouring countries’, respectively. The end of this two day event would see outstanding delegates in each committee being felicitated with the Best Delegate trophy and total cash prizes worth Rs 66,000. A Gala Social Party for the delegates consisting of music dance and fun would follow. Welcoming the student delegates Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran said that such events provide a great opportunity to students for enhancing their communication and interpersonal skills, expand their knowledge of critical national and global issues and work towards bringing positive social change.
