CEO Punjab asks officers/employees to register as voters

Chandigarh, September 7, 2012: The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab today asked all the officers and Employees of Punjab Government to register themselves as voters in the Voter lists.

A Spokesperson of the Chief Electoral Office today said that according to the schedule released by the Election Commission of India, Officers/Employees would be able to register as voters from October first to 31, 2012 with the Electoral Registration Officer or Booth Level Officer.

He further said that, during the last Assembly Elections in the state, names of many Officers and Employees were found missing from the Voter lists, who had performed election duty as Presiding Officers/Poling Officers and BLOs.   He said that according to the Election Commission of India to perform the election duty , it was mandatory for a Government official to be a voter.

CEO also asked to all Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Boards and Corporations, Managing Directors, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and all District Election officers to issue orders to employees working under them in this regard.  

He further said that to get registered as new voter one would have to deposit the form no 6 with the BLO or the Election Registration officer of the concerned area. Besides that the Officer/Employee willing to correct his/her name in the voter list, would have to deposit the form no 8 with the BLO or the Election Registration officer.
