Ferozepur, December 30, 2012: National Consumer Awareness Group (NCAG) celebrated Consumer Protection Day at Zila Parishad office, Guruharsahai, which was presided over by Paramjit Singh, Punjab Consumer Cell and SDM Guruharsahai was the Chief Guest.

On this occasion, Rohit Vohra, Darshan Singh Brar, Amandeep Girdhar, Prem Sachdeva, Naresh Sikri, Ashwani Vohra and Deputy Gakhar were also present.

Paramjit Singh, Chairman, NCAG addressing at the function said, Consumer Protection Act 1986 was introduced by the Centre Government and later on, Punjab Government also adopted it.  The Consumer Protection Act 1986 is a social welfare legislation which was enacted as a result of widespread consumer protection movement. The main object of the legislature in the enactment of this act is to provide for the better protection of the interests of the consumer and to make provisions for establishment of consumer councils and other authorities for settlement of consumer disputes and matter therewith connected. 

He further said, under the Consumer Protection Act, the interests of the consumers are taken care of so that they are not exploited.  The consumers should make the maximum use of it and also keep aware the other people.  In case any shopkeeper charges over and above the fixed price, an action can be initiated against him under the Act. Each consumer must insist on bill on any purchase. 

Manjit Kaur, president, Anil Handa, district president, Muktsar president Shyam Lal Goyal, Jalalabad president Darshan Lal Madan, Guruharsahai president Deepak Baja also addressed in this programme.
