Jalandhar, December 22, 2012: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a Charge Sheet on December 21 in the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mirzapur , Ahmedabad U/s 120-B r/w 341, 342, 343, 302 and 203 IPC against the then eight Police officials of Crime Branch, Ahmedabad, including Deputy SP (Retd), Inspectors and others in connection with death of Sadik Jamal Mahetar, resident of Bhavnagar, Gujarat in an alleged fake encounter.
This case had been entrusted to CBI for investigation by High Court of Gujarat at Ahmedabad vide its order dated 16.06.2011 passed in Special Criminal Application no. 963/2007 filed by the brother of deceased.
CBI investigation revealed that the deceased Sadik Jamal Mahetar was detained for a considerable period before being allegedly killed in a stage managed encounter by the then Police Officials of Crime Branch, Ahmedabad.
CBI has arrested five accused including a Deputy SP (Retd), two Police Inspectors, a ASI and a Head Constable on 21.12.12 for their role in alleged fake encounter and produced them before the court alongwith the chargesheet. They were sent to judicial custody. Another then Police Inspector arrested earlier is already in judicial custody. Two other then Police Inspectors have also been chargesheeted.

Investigation has been kept open u/s 173(8) Cr.P.C. to find out the involvement and complicity of other persons, if any.
The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidences collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
