CBI arrests senior divisional electrical engineer of Eastern Railway and five others

New Delhi, August 8, 2014: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Traction Distribution) of Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division and five private persons including two Managers of Kolkata based private companies in a bribery case.

This was stated by the spokesperson of the CBI. He said that a case was registered alleging that two private persons managing the business affairs of Kolkata based private firms had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer(Traction Distribution), Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division (West Bengal) during the year 2014 and paid huge amount of bribe to the said Divisional Electrical Engineer of Railways for showing  favour to their business concerns in processing of bills & overlooking the omission against the execution of various works.

CBI laid a trap and arrested the Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer of Eastern Railway for accepting the bribe amount of Rs.45,000 from an employee of the said business concerns. The two Managers of said business concerns and their three employees were also arrested.

He said that  the Searches in the official & residential premises of the accused were conducted.  Cash of Rs.5.5 lakhs (approx.); FDRs worth around Rs.25 lakhs; lockers in four different banks;various bank accounts and documents relating to other investments have been recovered from the premises of the Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer.

All the six arrested accused persons are being produced today before the CBI Special Court, Alipore in Kolkata.  Further investigation is continuing.
