Amar Pratap Singh, an IPS Officer of the 1974 Batch (Jharkhand Cadre) relinquishing the charge of Director, CBI after successfully completing his tenure.

Jalandhar, November 30, 2012: Amar Pratap Singh, an IPS Officer of the 1974 Batch (Jharkhand Cadre) today relinquished the charge of Director, CBI after successfully completing his tenure in Delhi. 

He was the 24th Director of CBI after its formation in 1963; and took over as Director, CBI on 30.11.2010. 

Singh had earlier held several important positions in CBI. He was Special Director, CBI from April, 2009 to November, 2010. He held the post of DIG and SP in CBI from 1987 to 1995.

Amar Partap Singh oversaw several complex, specialised and high profile cases to probe corruption and crime during his term as Director, CBI.  He took important measures toward providing better facilities and infrastructure for CBI’s officers and staff in all zones throughout the country.  Several steps for modernisation of CBI were also taken during his tenure.

Singh initiated many welfare measures, such as better housing & allowances for the CBI staff. Earlier, in a career spanning three decades, Singh served as Superintendent of Police of Katihar, Bhagalpur and Jamshedpur. He served as IGP Special Branch and CID in Meghalaya while on North-East deputation. He also served as Chief Vigilance Officer in Indian Airlines.  He was specially selected by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand as Officer on Special Duty to function as Advisor to Chief Minister in his secretariat. He served as Additional Director General in the Border Security Force.

Singh, a Post Graduate of Delhi University, has been decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
