Ludhiana, October 16, 2019: Hero DMC Heart Institute celebrated World Restart A Heart (WRAH) Day today. This day is celebrated across the world by training and creating awareness to public regarding identifying cardiac arrest and its management by lay person till the time medical help arrives.
The theme of this program is “Every Citizen is a Lifesaver”. This was attended by nearly 150 persons who did not have any medical background.
The program included a presentation in local language and demonstration of CPR followed by hands on training on the manikins (dummies) to the public. The program was inaugurated by Sh Prem Kumar Gupta Secretary Managing Society DMCH, he said DMCH is committed to create awareness among the public regarding various health care issues.
Dr GS Wander Chief cardiologist & Coordinator said more than 70% cardiac arrest occurs at Home and if CPR done timely and started at home, many lives can be saved. He added this is the part of regular training for the public in the western world however in India still more awareness is needed.
Dr Vivek Gupta Consultant Cardiac Anaesthesia & Critical Care said we are organizing regularly the CPR training program with various organizations including schools. He said any person can be trained in CPR skills without medical background and he can keep the heart pumping in cases of cardiac arrest without any equipment using two hands only.
Dr Sunil Katyal Professor & Head Anaesthesia DMC& H said these COLS (Compression Only Life Support) guidelines of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologist are simplified and can be understood easily.
The training of CPR was given by Dr Sunil Katyal, Dr Anju Grewal, Dr Vivek Gupta, Dr M Ruinder Singh & their team who are who are trained CPR instructor. The public actively participated during the session especially did the hands on training and learnt the skills of CPR. The training program was followed by prize distribution to the staff by Sh Prem Kumar Gupta Secretary & Sh Gyan Chand Dhawan Vice President DMC& H Managing Society along with Dr Sandeep Sharma Medical Superintendent & Dr Rajoo Singh were also present.
Dr Bishav Mohan Medical Superintendent (HDHI) congratulated all the participants and shared few instance of successful CPR at home by a staff. He also added that every citizen must be trained in CPR & First Aid skills. He extended his gratitude to management for encouraging this kind of public activities.
