CAPTAIN AMARINDER SINGH FELICITATES PUNJABI UNIVERSITY FOR CLINCHING MAKA TROPHY 2016-17 FOR SIXTH TIME IN ROW

Chandigarh, July 21, 2017: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today congratulated the Punjabi University, Patiala for clinching the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy for the sixth time in a row for overall best performance at inter-university, national and international competitions.

In his congratulatory message, the Chief Minister said that the University, its players and their coaches had made Punjab proud. The University had bagged the honour for sixth time in a row by securing 89635 points. Till now, the University has clinched this prestigious trophy 10 times.

Capt. Amarinder Singh reiterated his government's commitment to promote sports by upgrading the existing infrastructure to international standards and adding new ones to enable budding players from the state to compete effectively in national and international arena. The Chief Minister said his decision to set up a Sports University at Patiala is a step in that direction.
