New Delhi, February 7, 2018: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday met Congress President Rahul Gandhi to discuss the reorganisation of the Punjab unit of the party ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Sunil Jakhar and AICC in-charge of Punjab affairs, Asha Kumari.

The discussion centered around revamping of the PPCC organisational structure in order to strengthen the Punjab unit of the party and prepare it better for next year’s parliamentary elections, a party’s spokesperson disclosed after the meeting.

Captain Amarinder and Rahul also discussed the possibility of holding the AICC plenary session, likely to be held in March-April, in Punjab. Apart from Delhi, Punjab is being considered as a possible venue for the session, said the spokesperson, adding, however, that no final decision has yet been taken on this count.

A delegation of five ex-servicemen, led by Subedar (Retd) Bir Singh Chauhan, also accompanied the chief minister to meet Rahul. These ex-servicemen, who hail from different parts of the country, had quit the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the Punjab elections and had campaigned for Capt Amarinder in Patiala along with the suspended Delhi AAP MLA, Maj Devinder Shekhawat. They expressed the desire to join the Congress, which was welcomed by Rahul Gandhi and Capt. Amarinder Singh.
