Capt Sandhu promises to get Dakha rid of drugs

Dakha (Ludhiana), September 29, 2019: Congress general secretary and party candidate from Dakha Capt Sandeep Singh Sandhu today promised that he will ensure that the area got rid of drugs which have claimed so many precious lives. “Thanks to political patronage during Akali-BJP regime, so many precious lives have been lost and I will ensure that the scourge is completely eliminated, come what may”, he said. Interacting with people of various villages during his campaign, he said, while the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had already launched a war on drugs across the state, he will ensure that special focus is laid on Dakha as the problem is more serious and severe here due to political patronage given to the drug smugglers during the ten year Akali-BJP regime. “I am shocked to learn as how drug smugglers were being patronized in the area and the ‘chitta’ (the synthetic drug) was made so easily available during the Akali-BJP rule”, the Congress general secretary said, while adding, everyone knows as who those people were and how they ruined an entire generation of youth. During his tour of Chowkiman and Gujarwal villages, people had only one main demand to bring the culprits for drug pedaling to justice. “We not only want the drugs to be eliminated, we want the guilty also to be punished”, villagers demanded in Gujarwal. To this Capt Sandhu promised that no person found involved in drug smuggling will be spared and law will take its own course. In an informal interaction with reporters later, Capt Sandhu refused to mention anyone in particular. When suggested about the alleged involvement of some senior Akali leaders, the Congress candidate remarked, “Let the law take its own course as the Chief Minister has already set up a special task force (STF) to deal with this problem”. He said, people of the area knew it too well as who were the leaders involved in the drug pedaling and they had mentioned the names also. Meanwhile, the party sources reveal that Capt Sandeep Sandhu will file his nomination for Dakha on September 30 at 1 o’ clock in Mini Secretariat, Ludhiana. He will be accompanied among others by Punjab CM Capt Amrinder Singh.
