CAPT AMARINDER GOVT SETS UP COMMITTEE TO STREAMLINE PROVISION OF SECURITY & SECURITY OFFICIALS

ANOTHER PANEL CONSTITUTED TO ELIMINATE DISCREPANCIES IN PS REALLOCATION OF VILLAGES

Chandigarh, May 16, 2018: The Punjab government has decided to set up two separate Committees headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) NS Kalsi – one for streamlining the system of providing security and security vehicles to officials and non-officials, and the other to eliminate discrepancies in the recent notification on reallocation of villages to police stations in order to abolish halqa system.

Disclosing details, an official spokesperson said Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had taken cognizance of reports in some sections of the media that provision of security and security vehicles to officials and non-officials was not based on any prudent norms. These reports suggested that there was no rational policy in this regard, thus causing avoidable financial loss to the State.

Thus, to check and control this avoidable expenditure and maintain desirable security standards in the State, it had decided to set up a Committee headed by ACS (Home) with DG (Intelligence) and ADGP (Security) as Members. The Committee has been tasked with clearly detailing norms for provision of security and security vehicles to various officials and non-officials in the State.

The other committee would have DGP (Provisioning) VK Bhawra and IGP (Hqs) Jatinder Singh Aulakh as its members, said the spokesperson, adding that it had been asked to submit its report within a month.

The decision to set up this committee was taken in view of various representations received from the residents of the villages who said their villages had been attached to certain police stations though they were located close to other police stations. This was causing them extreme inconvenience and hardship, they told the Chief Minister, who has mandated the Committee to look into such genuine demands for early resolution, besides rectifying any discrepancies on priority.
