Chandigarh, August 30, 2019: A capacity-building workshop on communication skills was organized by D-Masters’ Club under the aegis of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) at Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45 Chandigarh.
While addressing the gathering, the resource person, Prof Gunmala Suri of University Business School, Panjab University shared her views on important aspects of public speaking. She used interactive and practical activities to engage students through games such as dumb charades and Chinese whispers.
Prof Suri said, “Verbal as well as non-verbal communication is marred by distortion of one kind or another. At many times the content on social media reaches us in a distorted form. For better communication one needs to guard against this.”
She motivated all the students to shed their inhibitions and participate in such events, which can enhance their personality.
The investiture ceremony of D-Masters' Club for the session was also held, in which Shubhi Maheshwari was elected the president of the club, while Mansi Nagpal, Urvi and Simar were respectively elected the vice-president, secretary and treasurer of the club.
An intra-college debate competition on the topic of 'Social Media – A weapon against Crime' was held in which ten students from different streams participated.
Prabhjot of B.Sc.-II bagged the first prize, while Tavishi of B.A.-II won the second prize and third prize was shared by Shubhi of B.Com.-III and Aradhana of B.A.-II.
The competition was adjudged by the resource person Prof Gunmala Suri.
RUSA coordinator Dr. Renu Kalra expressed here gratitude to Prof Gunmala Suri for holding such an interactive session and said that indeed it would help the students in more ways than one.
