BRIBE: CBI arrests IT Officer accepting Rs. 1.5 lakh

Jalandhar, November 2, 2012: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Income Tax Officer, Thane (Maharastra) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh from the complainant.

This was disclosed by a Spokesperson of the CBI today. He said that it was alleged in the complaint that in the month of September 2012, an Income Tax Officer, Thane demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 2.5 lakh from the complainant for avoiding scrutiny of Income Tax Returns of the complainant’s firm.  In the month of October 2012, Income Tax Officer, Thane increased her demand to the tune of Rs. 6 lakh by stating that a survey notice has been issued and if bribe amount was not paid by the complainant, the survey will be conducted on his firm.

  He said,   after registration of the Case U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988, a trap was laid by CBI,  and the Income Tax Officer (ITO) was arrested while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh from the complainant.

During searches at the official and residential premises of accused, incriminating documents pertaining to this Case and other documents relating to investment made by the accused were recovered. 

The arrested accused was produced before the Competent Court at Thane and remanded to CBI custody up to November 3.

 The Spokesman said, “Further investigation is continuing".
