Bittu raises in Lok Sabha issue of problems faced by aggrieved family members
Ludhiana, December 18, 2014: Member Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu today raised in Lok Sabha the issue of the problems faced by the aggrieved family members of the deceased while bringing back his mortal remains from foreign countries for performing his last rites.
Ravneet Singh Bittu said thousands of people migrate to the foreign countries for gaining higher education and in search of jobs as well as for achieving better prospects in life. In the event of someone's death caused in an untoward incident or due to natural reasons the family of the deceased who are often poor and uneducated faces lots of difficulties in bringing back his mortal remains. There are instances where they had to wait for upto four months for the body to arrive thereby compounding their grief, he said.                                                                       Suggesting the Government to set up a fund to help the families in distress in bringing the body and a dedicated nodal officer or cell in the Ministry to assist them, Ravneet said this single window should assist the families in completing all the necessary paper formalities in time. The officials of the department should remain in touch with the families from time to time and inform them of the steps taken by them in bringing back the body, the expected date of arrival along with the delays expected if any, he said.
