Ludhiana, July 1, 2014: Congress Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include Ludhiana in the plan of 100 developed city of the country. He wrote a letter to the Prime Minister and Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiya Naidu in this regard.

In his letter Bittu said Ludhiana is known as industrial capital of Punjab. The city with thousands of medium and small scale industries is an industrial hub in North India.

Referring to the fact Bittu added that in July 2009, International Finance Corporation (IFC) had ranked Ludhiana as the easiest location to do business in India. The PHD Chamber of commerce and industry again endorsed the fact.

Bittu further added that the Industry has grown leaps and bounds in the illustrious city, there still remain numerous shortcomings with respect to Urban Infrastructure. It is ironic that a city which as per World Bank (WB) report Titles “Doing Business in India 2009” states that Ludhiana is the most adept place to carry out business transactions does not have even proper urban infrastructure.

Bittu appealed the Prime Minister that on the maiden visit of his honor to Ludhiana during the recently held general elections, he himself promised the people of Ludhiana that he will help to make the town an industrial model. Without proper and requisite infrastructure development the dream of making the city an industrial hub will remain unfulfilled.

Bittu stated that he has heartened to know that the union government intends to build 100 cities by equipping the same with world class amenities and to achieve the objective of cleanliness sanitation in the cities, plans to upgrade infrastructure in model towns.
