Dharamshala, October 23, 2015: The last leg of this year’s Paragliding World Cup will be taking off in Bir-Billing, India from the 24th to the 31st of October 2015. And the Human Birds of the entire world shall start competing in Himachal sky from tomorrow (October 24).
Sudhir Sharma Urban Development Minister Himachal Pradesh and Organiser of the show, who performed a “Yagya” and “Pooja archana” for the smooth conduct of the World Cup at Billing informed this correspondent that The Paragliding World Cup is a cross country flying competition for paraglide pilots, organised by the PWCA. Each year, the Paragliding World Cup Tour visits 5-6 different locations worldwide. At each event several tasks are flown to establish the overall classification.
The goal of each competition task is to fly round a predetermined course with a start, some turn points (usually 4-6) and a finish line. Slightly simplified, the winner is the fastest pilot round the course, or the pilot who flew furthest if no one completes the course.
Pilots carry a GPS receiver to record their flight track, which is afterwards used to verify that they correctly followed the course and determine timings. The World Cup Tour for the year 2015 so far is

And now the 2015 World Cup - India ::: Bir In Himachal near Dharamshala 24/10/2015 to 31/10/2015 being the first Paragliding world cup being organised by a south Asian Country. Since 2010, there is one event at the end of every year called "PWC Superfinal". The best pilots selected from the events all over the year compete to select the overall winner of the year. Before 2010 the total winner was determined by adding the results of all world cups of the year.
After Bir- Billing world cup, which the last phase of such events for the year, the 2015 World Cup Superfinal shall be held in Mexico - Valle de Bravo from 12/01/2016 to 23/01/2016 which shall determine the overall champions for the year 2015 .
Sudhir Sharma said, Bir shall bid for the 2017 Super Finals of the Paragliding. He added that Bir shall organise National and Asian Cups every year after the organisation of the World Cup 2015.
