Bio-metric attendance system in all colleges and ITIs of Punjab Technical Education Department to be introduced

Chandigarh, April 17, 2017: Punjab Technical Education & Industrial Training Minister Mr.Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday announced to introduce bio-metric attendance system in the all the colleges and ITIs of the Punjab Technical Education Department. While presiding over a first review meeting of the department here today, Technical Education Minster said that bio-metric system would be introduced both for the staff and students which would be directly connected online with the head office to keep an eagle’s eye.

The Minister further added that Punjab Government would also launch a scholarship scheme for meritorious students interested in studying in Government Polytechnic, Engineering Colleges & ITIs. He said that this scheme will also be applicable for outstanding sports students. He said that Government Polytechnic, Engineering Colleges & ITI teachers are more qualified than that of private colleges and they are also highly paid therefore not less than 100% admission target will be acceptable.

Mr. Channi gave a stern message to all the officials that corruption and favoritism would not be tolerated at any level in the department and all promotions will be based on performance which will be directly linked with the ACRs. He further said that the Government institutes should focus on providing job orientated quality education based on the present and future needs of the global Industry. He also asked the heads of the department to make an extra effort to tie up with the Big Industrial units and Multinational Companies at their level for the placement and practical training of students.

Announcing zero tolerance for copying in exams Mr. Channi categorically said that if anyone found copying by the flying squad would also be treated as failure of concerned examiners and he would also be held responsible. The Minister said that the answer sheets of students seeking revaluation would be put on the department website and if difference of more than 10 percent found in the revaluation cases, action against the examiner would be taken.

The Minister asked the senior officials from head office to inspect all Polytechnic, Engineering Colleges & ITI’s regularly and submit performance report to him. He said that the internal gradation system for department institutes would be put in place and good performing institutes would be rewarded and action against non performers would be taken. Minister also announced annual State Awards for best performing three principles and three teachers of the institutes of the technical education department.
