`BALRI Surakhya Yojna’ proves boon for people

Jalandhar, July 18, 2013: The Balri Surakhya Yojna initiated by the Punjab government to maintain the dignity of the girl child in the society besides improving the sex ratio in state was producing the desired results in the district as till now 24 beneficiaries were availing the benefits of this scheme.

This was stated here today, a spokesperson of the Health department said that the scheme initiated by the Punjab government was very helpful for the people. Under this scheme the eligible couples who have adopted the family planning programme after one or two girl child were provided financial assistance worth Rs 500 for bringing up the child till she attains the age of 18 years. Likewise 24 couples from the district were availing the benefits of this ambitious scheme of the state government.

Earlier, the number of beneficiaries in the district was 19 but now the Health Department has passed five more cases of such beneficiaries due to which their total number has increased to 24.

Divulging more details regarding the scheme the spokesperson said that any family which was resident of the state and was neither in government job nor filing any return and in which the family planning measure has been adopted by either of the parent was eligible for this scheme. He further said that if any family was having two girl children then both of them would be eligible for the benefit of the scheme and two separate accounts would be opened for them and interest would be paid on the sum deposited till the age of 18 years.
