Bajwa announces to start massive campaign for organising village level sports tournaments

Sultanpur Lodhi (Kapurthala),November 4, 2017: Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Punjab Mr Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa today said that in order to wipe out the curse of drugs from the state the Punjab government would soon start a massive campaign to organise village level sports tournaments across the state.

Addressing the gathering during a sports tournament here to mark the parkash utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, the Minister said that these tournaments would be held in consonance with the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to make Punjab a drug free state. He said that these tournaments to be organised at village level would promote sportsmanship amongst the youth besides channelising their unbounded energy in a positive direction. Mr Bajwa said that these tournaments would be instrumental in giving right direction to the youth of the state.

The Minister further said in order to ensure free and fair competition in these tournaments Dope test would be made mandatory in them. He said that it was the need of the hour to ensure that the scourge of drugs was wiped out from the state permanently. Mr Bajwa also exhorted the youth to come forward and support the state government for making Punjab a front ranking state in the country.

The Minister also announced a complete facelift of the Holy city ahead of the 550th Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. He said that the state government has already formed a high level committee to celebrate this mega event in an unsurpassable way. Mr Bajwa said that no stone would be left unturned to ensure these celebrations with full religious gaiety and fervour.

Later on Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of the function, the Minister said that the Committee would make elaborate arrangements for convenience of pilgrims to this sacred place. He said that a strategy would be chalked out to ensure holistic development of this holy city.

Replying to another query, the Minister said that Punjab Control of Organised Crime Act (PCOCA) was important to crack down on the menace of organised crime and gangsters in the state. He said that it was all the more important to instil the fear of the law into the gangsters to check their attempts to create lawlessness and trouble in the state.

Earlier, MLAs Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi and Mr Navtej Singh Cheema welcomed the Minister to the historic city. Extending warm greetings to people on Parkash utsav, they exhorted them to follow the path shown by Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included MLAs Mr Rajinder Beri, Mr Gurkirat Singh Kotli and Mr Lakhbir Singh Lakha.
