Bagha urges Centre to broaden horizon of Post-Matric Scholarship
Chandigarh, October 21, 2014: Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission chairman Rajesh Bagha has urged the union government to broaden the horizon of post-Matric scholarship by including general category students from low income group. Bagha met Union minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot in New Delhi today. Union Minister assured Mr. Bagha
Rajesh Bagha said that at present, students from Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, Scheduled Tribes and Minorities parents’ income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh per annum, are eligible for scholarship after matriculation.
“I have urged the union minister that the criteria for selection of students for post matric scholarship should be changed. We want that maximum number of student’s avail of this facility and it is possible only if the slab of Rs 2.5 lakh annual income is increased. Apart from SC, ST, BC and minority students, even students from low income general category should also be made eligible for this scholarship,” said Bagha. He also invited Thawar Chand Gehlot to visit Punjab.
