Badhaai Ho and Andhadhun sweep away the glory at the second edition of Reel Movie Awards 2019
They say big things come in small packages and this saying couldn’t be true for the big winners at the News18.com’s Reel Movie Awards 2019. It rained awards for Badhaai Ho and Andhadhun, two films that were small on a budget, but high on content and mass appreciation each winning four and two awards respectively. Badhaai Ho, one of the stellar hits of last year, which was a quirky tale of two middle-aged parents having a baby in their 50s, stole the show bagging four awards that included the coveted Best Film award. Gajraj Rao rightfully bagged the Best Actor award for his impeccable performance. The artist performed the role of Jeetendra Kaushik to the tee, had outstanding comic timings. Leaving her mark as a grandmother in the film, Surekha Sikri went on to win the Best Supporting Actor Female. No prizes for guessing that she was an absolute hit with her quirky humour. With the audience hooked from start to end in this middle-class tale, it was no surprise to see the film claim the Best Screenplay award. Director Amit Sharma on receiving the award said, “This was one of the best award shows that I’ve ever attended. They have chosen the right films. I’m very happy to see these nominations. It certainly must have been a tough task for the jury to decide the winner and that is the way it should be. The cinema that was one considered as art films or content-driven films, all that is working well today and that change is indeed very good. There are a lot of stories in every corner of the country and I firmly believe that these are stories meant to be told. We should depict stories that people relate to and find enjoyable. Today, the public is more open and accepting to watch content-driven films, which is the reason why this kind of cinema is working today.” Having directed gems like Johnny Gaddaar and Badlapur, director Sriram Raghavan won the Best Director award for Andhadhun. The film, packed with twists and turns accompanied with a fantastic musical score, went on to win the Best Background score award making it a night to remember. Accepting the award, Sriram Raghavan said, “What we see today is that content-driven films are doing so well in terms of box-office success as well as critical acclaim. This has been the major reason why producers are putting in faith and investment towards giving the audience such kind of cinema. Quality content is being recognized and I feel good about that.”
