Badal condoles death of Dr Verghese Kurien

Chandigarh, September 10, 2012: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today deeply mourned the sad demise of the father of ‘White Revolution’ and founder of co-operative dairy movement in India Dr Verghese Kurien, who passed away at Anand in Gujarat on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

In a condolence message the Chief Minister recalled the outstanding contribution of Dr Kurien in emerging AMUL with a turnover of over Rs. 13,000 crore, as Asia’s top milk producing brand.

Badal said the remarkable services rendered by Dr Kurien in the co-operative dairy sector would be ever remembered by the one and all.

Describing Dr Kurien as a true visionary who made our country the world’s largest milk producer besides making it the largest rural employment provider, the Chief Minister said that he would be ever remain a source of inspiration for millions of dairy farmers across the country.

In the death of Dr Kurien the nation had been deprived of his valuable services which were instrumental in giving a new direction for the development of the dairy sector, added Mr Badal.

Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family, the Chief Minister prayed to the Almighty to give them courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.
