Awareness lectures held for children to celebrate Safe Diwali

Ludhiana, October 24, 2019: As Diwali is around the corner, Department of Plastic Surgery under the headship of Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Professor & Head of Plastic Surgery) conducted a series of awareness lectures in various schools of the city including Adarsh Public School in Haibowal Kalan and Guru Singh Sabha Senior Secondary School Model Town to celebrate safe DIWALI.

In his address, Dr Uppal stressed that though DIWALI should be made absolutely eco-friendly by not bursting the crackers but practically, it is not possible as children always want to have some fun by bursting the crackers.

Dr Uppal said that it is always advisable to adopt precautionary measures while bursting the crackers whether it is ‘anaar’, ‘rocket’, ‘charakri’ or any other type of cracker. The children should always burst the crackers in supervision of elders, and should always keep water bucket handy.

Most of the accidents occur due to ‘anaar’ as many times, after igniting the ‘anaar’ we feel as if it has not burnt properly and when, we again go close to it, it suddenly bursts and can burn the hands or eyes of a person, who tries to burst the cracker again.

As far as igniting of ‘phuljhadi’ is concerned, one should never try to dance or throw its sparks on others.

Dr Uppal suggested some strict Dos and Don'ts which should be considered in celebrating safe Diwali
