Awareness Generation Camp by PU
Chandigarh, February 28, 2019: Department of Life Long Learning, Panjab University Chandigarh organized a one day Awareness Generation Camp for the school students at Government Model High School, Sector 29-A, Chandigarh. More Than 50 students and teachers participated. The first session was addressed by Prof.Sween, who spoke about ‘Role of students in preservation of Environment.’ The objective was to generate awareness and consciousness amongst students about environment and their role in protecting it. She explained that environment consists of both living and non-living components, which are continuously interacting with each other. To create and maintain balance in nature both these components have to be taken care of by us.
Importance of Air, water and earth, flora and fauna was discussed. Causes of pollution were enumerated and students themselves came forward with small but very useful suggestions for keeping our water, air and earth recourses safe and clean. Link between our religious scriptures and environment was highlighted. She talked about menace of plastic garbage and adviced the students against its use. Students pledge to say no to polythene and plastic.
Dr. Prabha Vig, Associate Professor from Department emphasized that these news are going to upset them by negative messages which is going to create stress and tension in them. She further added that as exams are approaching near so they have to replace the negative feelings with the positive feelings by not feeling anxious. She further said this is the time they should remain relax and concentrate on their studies. Here she enlightened them with facts which can help them to fight stress and anxiety. At last she said that success in life needs concentration and positive thoughts by knowing that you tried your best on the day.
Mr. Rajesh Ranchan, Principal of the school advised the school students to plant at least a tree on the school campus or adopt a tree and take good care of it. If each student does this, school campus shall became greener and cleaner and better place to live. The programme was facilitated by Ms. Partibha Sharma, the counselor of the school.
