Avail Incentives For Green Buildings: Joshi

Chandigarh, December 17, 2016: Under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) incentives have been proposed to be given to the Green Buildings, which are created by using processes that are environmentally responsible and resources efficient throughout the building’s life cycle i.e. design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition.
Sh. Anil Joshi, Local Government Minister, Punjab has approved the policy of the department for giving incentives to green buildings in the municipal areas. Stating this today Sh. Joshi informed that 15% rebate in property tax will be granted to the building till the time building is Punjab ECBC(Energy Conservation Building Code) compliant. At the same time an incentive of additional 5% FAR shall be granted free of cost on submission of Green Building rating certificate by agencies i.e. GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment), LEED (India Green Building Council),or IGBC (India Green Building Council). These incentives will be applicable to residential and non-residential buildings on plot sizes above 100 Sqm (120 square yards) of offices, hotels, shopping complexes, group housing complexes, hospitals and other that are not primarily for industrial i.e manufacturing use. These incentives will be subject to other terms and conditions e.g. obtainenance of completion certificate and there is no violation of any byelaws/rules.
The Minister further disclosed that given incentives shall be reviewed every 3 years and in case of any non compliance of the conditions a penalty equivalent to 5 times the collector rate of land proportional to the 5% additional FAR shall be imposed. Sh. Joshi appealed to save environment from further degradation by constructing such green buildings and to take effective part in the Swachh Bharat Mission of our beloved Prime Minister to make India a great tourist destination.
