Chandigarh, July 26, 2016: Australian High Commissioner in India Ms Harinder Sidhu today called on the Finance Minister of Punjab Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa. During the meeting the core issues of mutual interest like Financial Management, Investment Promotion, Education, Immigrants and Agriculture were deliberated upon.
Mr. Dhindsa extended warm welcome to Ms Harinder Sidhu and said that it is a matter of pride for whole of India that Ms Sidhu who basically hails from Punjab has been deputed as the Australian High Commissioner in India. He said that Australia and Punjab shares lot of common interest in the fields of Agriculture, Education and Immigration. He said that Australia is a home of number of Punjabis who emigrated from Punjab and they had contributed a lot for the development of Australia in various sectors.
The Australian dignitary showed keen interest in understanding the various models adopted by the state of Punjab for financial management and investment promotion. Both the sides agreed that the financial as well as the cultural ties must be strengthened further.
The Australian High Commissioner also extended an invitation to the Finance Minister Mr. Dhindsa to visit Australia. On the occasion, Mr. Dhindsa felicitated the visiting dignitaries with the hallmark of Punjabi culture i.e. ‘Phulkari’ and souvenir depicting the various colours of the vibrant Punjab.
Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion were First Secretary Ms. Tanya Spitsbah, Media Officer Ms Vartika Sethi, Director Australia Trade & Investment Commission (North West India) Mr. Ashish Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), Punjab Mr. D.P. Reddy and Secretary (Expenditure), Punjab Mr. Jaspal Singh.
