Association of UPVC Windows and Door Manufacturers: UWDMA supports Skill Development Scheme, Inaugurates its first training centre at ITI Bhiwadi

Bhiwadi, July' 2, 2018: With an aim to train youth in the skill sets required for Fabrication of UPVC Windows & Doors, the association of UPVC Windows and Door Manufacturers: UWDMA Inaugurated India's first UWDMA Skill Development Centre (U-SDC). With the support from Government of Rajasthan, the facility has been set up at ITI Bhiwadi. Ms Ute Hoffman (GIZ), Mr S D Lahiri, DGT, Key Note Speaker Rama Shankar Pandey, Department of Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Jaipur Govt of Rajasthan and other esteemed members of UWDMA were present during the Inauguration.

UWDMA Skill Development Centre is a one of its kind centre with 100% funding from the members in the form of machines, profiles, hardware, steel, money, manpower and facilities to conduct practical sessions. Total duration of the course will be 6 months and the first batch will constitute of more than 10 students. During the tenure, students will be imparted training on production and installation of different types of UPVC Windows and Doors. Graduates from this course will be placed in Member companies later on.

UWDMA President Mr Mario Schmidt (Managing Director, Lingel Windows) says “The association has conducted numerous workshops across India to promote UPVC Windows/Doors at various forums. The members had been planning to set up a neutral training facility from quite some time, where students can be taught the right way to make UPVC windows. Government of Rajasthan and IGVET have been very helpful and provided us space at ITI Bhiwadi to start this first Center”.

UWDMA – UPVC Windows Doors Manufacturers Association is a non government and not to profit organization started in 2007/8 to promote best practices in the Industry.

UPVC Windows started in India in the mid 90s and started gaining popularity after 2005. In absence of Indian Standard Code for UPVC Profiles or Doors/Windows, Indian Market got flooded with foreign products. UWDMA was formed to regulate this influx and to liaison with Bureau of Indian Standards to formulate the IS code for UPVC.

“In 2015-16, UWDMA conducted a series of training programs in Bhiwadi with Glass Academy another NGO promoting Glass and Glazing. In 2017 a nationwide campaign on best practices for Estimation named “The Cost Factor” was conducted soon after the aftermath of Hudhud cyclone in Chennai. This year our goal is to train 45 students by the end of year on UPVC window production and installation. This became possible with the support from Government of Rajasthan, GIZ, German Embassy & esteemed members” says Satish Kumar, Secretary, UWDMA. Satish is Country Manager, Deceuninck India.

The Indian door and window industry has a significant approx15000 Crores of market size. Out of this 10 per cent share or roughly around 1600 crore is UPVC Door and Window sector. uPVC doors and windows market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.0% during 2015-2020 and the major growth drivers for this Industry are increasing new housing construction and replacement activities. The other tangible and intangible benefits are, uPVC doors and windows are thermal, water- and wind-resistant. These Door and window systems are corrosion-free and are energy efficient which can save energy up to 25% to 30%.
