Says CAA & national register of citizens (NRC) a direct assault on country’s secular character

Ludhiana: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu today appreciated the firm stand of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh over his stand over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as well as National Register of Citizens (NRC). Mr Ashu said that Capt Amarinder Singh’s stand has saved Punjab from inferno of hatred and violence.
In a press statement issued here today, Mr Ashu said that Capt Amarinder Singh stands like a tall wall against the Modi government's cunning design to polarise India and create permanent enemies within. He said that our state owes a big thanks to the farsighted leadership of Capt Amarinder Singh. He also said that CAA as well as NRC are a direct assault on our country’s secular character.
Mr Ashu said that everybody who loves tolerance, adores brotherhood and seeks peaceful coexistence of diversity of India is coming out against “witch hunting” through CAA and process of impending but boastfully declared NRC. He stated that students have really won hearts of millions of people by their bold and brave opposition to cunning maneuvers of draconian mindset of a fascist regime.
“By opposing CAA to be followed by nation wide NRC to divide and deprive people of their rights, students cutting across religious, caste or class lines have poured on streets, taken over social media with their logical arguments and exposed the government's moves. Today with symbolic protests across country and with Congress leadership to descend on streets and lend support to common man's anguish, the Narendra Modi led Union government is surely going to get unnerved and agree to make necessary changes is CAA and suspend permanently the idea of NRC,” Mr Ashu said, while thanking Capt Amarinder Singh on his stand that Punjab would not allow the implementation of CAA as well as NRC.
He said that during the abolition of Section 370 from Jammu & Kashmir, Capt Amarinder Singh had firmly ensured the safety of Kashmiri students in Punjab and also made sure they reach their houses safely. “ Even BJP's ally in Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), has backtracked from its initial stand and has demanded inclusion of Muslims as beneficiaries of the Citizenship Amendment Act,” said Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
