Artists danced their way to hearts of audience on 4th day of Sopan Festival

New Delhi: Sopan Festival, a celebration of the Young Musicians and Dancers successfully wrapped the fourth day at Central Park, Rajiv Chowk. The 6-day long festival, organized by Sahitya Kala Parishad along with Delhi Government, will continue until December 18, 2019, where the 24 scholarship holders of Sahitya Kala Parishad will come together and showcase their talents in Classical art forms.

 

 

 

On the first day of the festival, the inaugural performance was by G. Raghavendra Prasad who presented a melodious Violin ensemble followed by a Kathak performance by Dr Garima Arya Chaturlal. Later, Ankita Kaushik presented Bharatanatyam. The evening came to an end with a Kathak ensemble by Jaya Pathak. On the second day, the audience witnessed a musical vocal by Riya Banerjee, this was followed by Pakhawaj presentation by Bhanu Sisodia. Later, Reshma Suresh presented Mohinniattam. The evening came to an end by Siddi Goel’s Kathak ensemble. On the third day, Shivam Dubey performed his classical vocal. This was followed by a violin ensemble by Komal Nirwan. Later, Yamini Dikshit presented her Odissi performance. Vrinda Baheti ended the evening with her Kathak ensemble.

 

 

 

The fourth day saw another interesting line-up of artists performing on a single stage. The brother duo, Akshay Gupta and Vishal Gupta started the evening with their classical vocal piece. The brothers have learnt classical music for 4 years underPt. Ashish Sankrityayan (Dagar Gharana) at Dhrupad Kendra Bhopal in Guru Shishya tradition, later they came back to their hometown Delhi and started to learn Khyal music vocal (Gwalior Gharana) by Guru Dr Sunil Kumar and became his disciples. The duo performed Raag Bihag, Vilambit Aalap, Bada khyal and Chhota khyal. They were accompanied by Shri Neeraj Kumar on Tabla. This was followed by Ankita Dhingra’s Sitar ensemble.

 

 

 

Later, Tanya Gambhir mesmerised the audience with her Bharatanatyam dance. A disciple of Guru Smt Kanaka Sudhakar, Tanya has been practising the art form of Bharatanatyam for the past 11 years now.  Tanya dedicated her performance to the sweetness of Lord Krishna. The presentation consisted of a Padam followed by a thillana. The lotus-eyed Lord is depicted in two different moods, the first piece is an Ashtapadi Yahi Madhava, where Radha is condescending of Krishna’s behaviour with other Gopis and turns into a Khandita Nayika which is set to Raagam Bharavi and Taalam Aadi whereas the second piece is an all praise Thillana in Ragaam Dhanashree and Taalam Aadi. Artists who accompanied Tanya on stage were Guru Smt Kanaka Sudhakar on Nattuvangam, Shri Jayan gave the vocal, Tanjavur Keshavan on Mridangam and Chembai Srinivasan on violin. The evening was concluded with Shruti Kotnala’s Kathak ensemble.
