Punjab National Bank Delhi beat BSF Jalandhar by 3-1

Jalandhar, October 12, 2013: Army XI Delhi beat Indian Overseas Bank by 5-2 and Punjab National Bank Delhi beat Border Security Force by 3-1 to earn three full points from their first outings in the 30th Servo Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament Quarterfinal league stage at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.

In Pool C Army XI and Indian Overseas Bank displayed good hockey. In the early minutes of the game Army took the possession and they took the lead in 6th minute of the game through the stick of Siraju AP (1-0). In the 7th minute of the play Armymen struck once again this time Binoy Bhengra scored the goal (2-0). After that in 23rd minute Indian Overseas Bank reduced the margin by field goal scored by Vinod Rayer (1-2). At Lemon break Armymen was leading by 2-1.

In the second half Indian Overseas Bank players mounted pressure on the army team, but they not able to convert two chances in 40th and 45th minute of the play. In the 48th minute of the play Army’s Anup Topno, In 55th minute S Arumugam and in 60th minute Milan Muthappa scored goals (5-1). In the 61st minute Vinod Rayer of Indian Overseas Bank able to reduce the margin from field goal (2-5).

Second match played in Pool B between Punjab National Bank Delhi and BSF Jalandhar. In the 12th minute of the play Punjab National Bank took the lead, their Jatinder scored the goal from top of the striking circle (1-0). In the 19th minute of game Securitymen’s Ranjit Singh scored equalizer (1-1). In the 34th minute of the play Bankmen’s Inder scored the game from reverse stick (2-1).  At Half time Bank was leading by 2-1.

In the second half BSF tried best to equalize but not able to do so. In the 51st minute of play Bank’s Jatinder scored from penalty corner (3-1).
