ARMY organises cricket tournament in Mamdot sector villages

Ferozepeur, July 15, 2013: A cricket tournament on the lines of Indian Premier League (IPL) was organised by Golden Arrow Division for the remote villages of Mamdot Sector from 5-13.

A total of 12 teams participated in the Mamdot Premier League which was played on round robin basis, with finals being played on 10 Jul 13.

The initiative was aimed at strengthening the civil-military ties besides boosting the morale and confidence of the youth belonging to the remote villages, to keep them away from the scourge of drugs and promote sports and health consciousness.

The finals of Mamdot Premier League was played between ‘Dharieke Daredevils’ and ‘Tredda Tigers’ which was witnessed by more than 1,200 villagers.

Commandant Malkiyat Singh, 137 BSF Bn, Sarpanches of nearby villages and representatives of Maruti Suzuki and Airtel, Ferozepur gave away the prizes. Apart from these representatives of SSP Ferozepur and local civil administration was also witness to sport event. 

The prizes include the trophy for winning and runners up team, cash prizes for man of the match, man of the tournament and maximum sixes.

The villagers lauded the efforts of the Army in organising such a sport event in a remote area. Mamdot Premier League has been successful in bringing cheer to the people of the remote villages as well as projecting a positive image of the Indian Army.
