Annual Convocation being held at HMV, Jalandhar.

Jalandhar, April 18, 2015: Annual Convocation of Hans Raj Mahila Mahila Maha Vidyalaya was organised recently.  Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Secretary, University Grants Commission graced the occasion as Chief Guest.  Dr.Harvinder Singh Randhawa, Deputy Director Sports and Head, GNDU Amritsar was the worthy Guest of Honour.  The function started with the chanting of Ved Mantras and ceremonial lighting of the lamp.  Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj accorded a warm welcome to the guests and read the Annual Report.

In a brief cultural programme, the students of the college Nimrat and Aman presented a sufi song on this occasion.  969 students who had graduated and 238 students who had postgraduated in 2013-14 received their degrees.  46 students who had stood first in the University were honoured with gold medals.  49 students who had stood second in the university were awarded silver medals.  7 students signed the Roll of Honour.  On this occasion, Members of Local Committee Dr. Sushma Chawla, Kundan Lal Aggarwal, Om Parkash Mahajan, S.P. Sehdev, S.N.Mayor, C.L. Kochhar, Regional Director DAV  Engg. Colleges, Principal A.L. Sangal, Principal Ravinder Sharma were also present.  Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj presented a silver salver and a painting especially prepared by Fine Art Department to the Chief Guest.  She also presented an insignia and a painting to the Guest of Honour.

In his Convocation Address, the worthy chief guest Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu recognised the value of hard work which is imparted by DAV institutions everywhere.  He also enlightened the audience regarding UGC grants under different schemes for institutions and individuals.  He talked about the provision of adjunct faculty for skilled courses under ‘Kaushal Kendras’ as the trend was shifting to blue collared jobs.  He advised the graduates not to forget three debts which they had to pay : debt to the environment, debt to the parents and debt to their teachers.  The Guest of Honour Dr. H.S. Randhawa enlightened the audience with his gems of wisdom by laying focus on two things.  ‘Dream big and work for it and contribute something towards society’ he said.  After the function, the guests also visited Skill Development Centre, Heritage Centre ‘Saada Virsa’ and Language Labs.

 

The stage was conducted by Dr. Jasbir Rishi.  Vote of thanks was given by Meenakshi Syal, Dean Academics.
