ANNOUNCEMENT: Minimum wages enhanced

Chandigarh, November 22, 2012: Punjab Government has revised the minimum rates of wages in the state. These revised rates would come into force with effect from September 1, 2012.

This was disclosed here by Surjit Kumar Jayani, Forest and Labour Minister Punjab.

The Minister further said that the minimum wages of unskilled worker would be Rs.5,200 now. Semi skilled worker now get Rs. 5,980, skilled worker Rs. 6,877, highly skilled 7,909, staff category A Rs. 10,370, Staff category B Rs. 8,700, Staff category C Rs. 7,200, staff category D Rs. 6,000.

Earlier, minimum wages of unskilled worker was Rs. 4,568, semi-skilled worker Rs. 4,913, skilled worker Rs. 5,297 and highly skilled worker Rs 5,743. These wages are for all employment except employment sports goods, industry, employment in tanneries and leather manufactures, employment in brick kiln industry employment and garments manufacturers.

Minimum wages of staff categories from A to D mentioned above shall be applicable only to scheduled employments under the Government of Punjab, local authority and the boards, corporations or any agency under the control of the Government of Punjab in respect of the staff employed through outsourcing or employed. Casually or on daily wages.
