Amritsar CMS Vatavaran, a Environment & Wildlife Film Festival and Forum being inaugurated at GNDU, Amritsar on Monday.

Jalandhar, November 3, 2014:  A Three day Amritsar CMS Vatavaran, a Environment & Wildlife Film Festival and Forum was inaugurated at Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditor of the Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar,  being hosted by the Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences in association with CMS Vatavaran and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST). Films based on environment, lectures and reviews would be a part of this festival which would conclude on November 5.
Anil Joshi,Punjab Minister of Local Government, Medical Education and Research,  formally inaugurate  Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar of the University presided over. . Bakshi Ram Arora, Mayor of Amritsar city was guest of hon-our and  Satnam Singh Ladhar, Additional Director, Environment, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology was special invitee.  N. Bhaskara Rao, Chairman, CMS, New Delhi welcomed the chief guest and others while  Satwinderjit Kaur, Head, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences of the University presented vote of thanks.
Speaking on the occasion Joshi said that for the sake of humanity, the unnecessary exploitation of nature should be stopped. We should all understand our responsibility for the environment. He said that today our environment is badly affected, for this we all are responsible. He said that collective efforts needed to be initiated by all especially educational institution. He said that a mass campaign to create awareness among general masses is required to make our environment more clean and green. He also congratulated the organizers for this event and hoped the proceedings during these three days would be beneficial for the mankind.
Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that Guru Nanak Dev University is concerned for the issue of depleted environment and organized a large number of seminars and symposium to create awareness. He said that this University is the first in the region to have eco-friendly campus. 
The event started with film ‘Jal Khet’ directed by Anjali Nayar in the Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium of the University. This was followed by various film shows, panel discussions and events to be organized at the various venues in Amritsar which includes DAV Public School, DAV College, GD Goenka Public School, Swami Satyanand College of Management and Technology, Hindu College, All India Pingalwara Charitable Society and Central Jail.
Apart from Jal Khet, films on environmental issues like The Tiger, They Are All Dead by Reema Sen Gupta; Smarty Plants by Kavita Behl and Nandan Sexena, Chilika-Jewel of Odisha by Shekhar Dattatri, Gaur in my Garden by Rita Banerji, The Moor by Jan Haft, Tiger Dynasty, When Every Drop Counts by Rishu Nigam, Greeny the Great by Dhananjay Bhopale, Corbett’s Legacy by Naresh Bedi, Bal Pandi- A Life of Birds by Suresh Elamon, Ladakh’s Artificial Glaciers by Rajindra Srivathsa Kondapali, The Fight by Saransh Sugandh, Wind of Change by Julia Dahr, Shifting under Currents-Women Seaweed Collectors of Gulf of Mannar by Rita Banerji and Dammed by Kavita Behl and Nandan Sexena and Platform No. 5 by C Vanaja Kumari.
