Teacher’s day in India is celebrated every year on the 5th September to honor the contributions of teachers towards nation building. There is a great reason behind celebrating the teacher’s day on 5th September. This day marks the birth anniversary of a renowned personality, Dr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. He was highly devoted towards education and well known as the scholar diplomat, President of India and most importantly, a Teacher. On the joyous occasion of Teachers day on 5th Sep, Amity dramatic Society – Ek Awaaz organized Rangmanch: the ultimate and unforgettable theatre experience. Professional theatre artists from Sukhmanch Theatre performed the famous play titled ‘COURT MARTIAL’. Students of EK AWAAZ also performed a theatrical play based on the stories by Saadat Hassan Manto and Khwaja Ahmad Abbas. Sukhmanch Theatre Director - Shilpi Marwah who has more than 15 years experience in theatre and has acted in almost dozen of bollywood movies & hundred of plays was also present on the occasion. While sharing her experience with the students Ms Shilpi said, “It is a socio political play which gives a message about inequality in society through satire on castesism. We have cast of 25 people in this play ‘Court Martial’ which was written by Swadesh Deepak 25 years ago”. Teacher is who teaches us and you don’t need to be teacher for that, we as artists always try to create awareness among people through our theatre plays. This play will teach us about equality she added. Addressing the gathering on the Teacher’s Day Prof P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana said, “On this Day, Teacher's Day, ‘I salute Thee’, for giving me the life full of Divinity and bliss of divine and remember my teachers and pay my respectful homage to all of them who gave me this day . We are very fortunate to be born in a country, ‘Bharatvarsa’, India where a teacher is regarded as more respectful than even the God Almighty! How fortunate are we, the ‘Bharatvasi’, the Indians. Before I close, let us all pledge to make our country, ‘Bharatvarsa’, India a ‘Heaven on Earth’ and to live up to the teachings of our great teachers.” Maj Gen G S Bal (Retd.), DSW, Amity University Haryana while addressing the students said, “If we focus on the teaching process, we will realize that there are a great number of changes in the field as well, and all of them have an influence on the role of teachers. First of all, teachers in modern classrooms are no longer lecturers, they are facilitators, their main task is to set goals and organize learning process accordingly.”
