Amity Scientists develop cost-effective and portable sensors to detect hazardous LPG gas leak
Amity signs NDA-MTA with M/s Honeywell International, Inc Today, Amity University signed a Non-Disclosure-Material Transfer Agreement (NDA-MTA) with M/s Honeywell International, Inc for technology “Low Powered Handheld Room Temperature LPG Sensor with Alarm-Alert System" at University campus, Sector 125 Noida Using nano-material based sensing film, the battery operated room temperature LPG sensors, first of its kind, is cost efficient and developed by Dr.V.K. Jain, Distinguished Scientist & Professor, Amity University and his team. The LPG sensor is cost effective, has high sensitivity and can act as a life-saving commodity. Once commercialized it will benefit the common man and help in sensing gas leakage faster. The agreement was signed by Dr.V.K. Jain, Distinguished Scientist & Professor, Amity University and Mr. Atul Paul, Product Manager, Gas Business-Honeywell in the presence of Dr. W Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation and other eminent scientists of Amity University. Briefing about the technology, Dr. V K Jain said that there is an immediate need for safety devices for Indian households since more than 50% households are still using LPG’s and the accident rate is higher. This sensor will detect the gas leakage faster through nano-material based sensing film and can avoid accidents. Mr. Atul Paul asserted, “The current focus area of our team is towards connected solutions and IOT’s.” He hoped that the collaboration would be a great success and when fully commercialized the company would launch these devices in India and Europe. Dr. Prashant Shukla, one of the developers of the sensor, stated that they are in need of honest commercial feedbacks and insights. “The sensors are robust but commercialization too is an extremely significant aspect since every research and innovation in Amity is towards the benefit of society” he added.
