Amar Jyoti at KMV; A Pious Gesture to Uphold Age-Old Cultural Values

Jalandhar, April 24, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar organized the pious Amar Jyoti function to mark the culmination of the academic session 2018-19. The Guest of Honor on the occasion included Ms Sharda Kaura, an alumni of the college who studied at KMV from 1944-47. Serving a lifetime in the field of education, she was accorded Fellowship of UNESCO and studied two years at Oxford University researching on how to improve the administrative aspect of education sector. Her par excellence service track record made her eligible for serving as a judge in court for 5 years after retirement.
Also present to grace the occasion as the guests of honor were luminaries from KMV Managing Committee Ms Neerja Chander Mohan, Ms Anuradha Sondhi, Dr. Sushma Chawla, Dr Sushma Chopra. After a warm floral welcome of all the guest and lighting of the ritual lamp of knowledge, Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi read the annual college report of 2018-19 highlighting many KMVites had passed their final exam with distinction & top merit positions. She also mentioned that KMV was the only college to get second FIST(DST) grant of 1 crore 10 lakh. Making the gathering aware of the importance of Amar Jyoti, Prof. Sharma averred that it was an age old tradition at KMV since its inception to gave this warm send-off to the out-going students by showering them with blessing for an exemplary and bright future. Such traditional farewells are a rarity these days. After the traditional songs exclusively sung at KMV on the occasion like Jai Jai Janani, Jai Jai Mata and Namo Desh Bhumi Namaste Namaste, the students shared some nostalgic memories with all present. After the honoring of the meritorious students and the student council, Ms Sharda Kaura shared some very personal and nostalgic memories of her college days. She reiterated that young girls must take care of their health. Observing that the world had seen such a sea change regarding opportunities available for a young girl she said that the sky was the limit for them. Dr Sushma Chawla spoke about preventing the preventable diseases by the Ribbon Movement. She presented everyone with a white ribbon signifying Women Empowerment & Stopping Violence Against Women.
Finally the patron and the source of inspiration for much creativity and innovation at KMV, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi was honored by the faculty and organizers of the function. The program ended with the applying of Tilak on the foreheads and distribution of Prasad to the outgoing students and the chanting of national anthem.
