Chandigarh: The Department of Gandhian & Peace Studies, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh on Saturday organised Alumni Meet and Professor Jai Narain Sharma Memorial Lecture on 'What the Gandhi is: A Study in Higher Education System in Hungry’. Director, The Hungarian Information and Cultural Centre, New Delhi, Dr. Zoltan Willhelm delivered the lecture at the Gandhi Bhawan.
Chairperson of the Department Dr. Ashu Pasricha explained the theme of the Lecture and gave a warm welcome to the delegates and the invited guests. Before the start the dignitaries lighted the lamp on the stage and gave a tribute to former Chairperson of the Gandhian & Peace Studies Department, PU and a renowned Gandhian Scholar Professor Jai Narain Sharma.
In his key note address, eminent Professor Dr. Zoltan Wilhelm spoke on the various efforts being made in Hungary to popularize the Gandhian philosophy. The message of Peace and Non-violence is not only relevant in Indian contexts but is also relevant in the otherwise spreading haltered, bigotry and intolerance throughout the globe, he added. He said that it is very important to understand all kinds of discriminations, in-justices and exploitation in all spheres of life and society and take measures to remove it in the Gandhian spirit of pan-nationalism. He emphasized that if we want to bring change in the society we must change ourselves.
The Guest of Honor of the day Professor Emirates Gopal Krishan presided over the function.
